The Winery:
Carpenè-Malvolti is Italy’s oldest family-owned sparkling wine company, founded in 1868 by the desire of Antonio Carpenè – distinguished Scientist, Chemist and Researcher – to sparkle and distill wines with grapes from the Treviso area.
A dream that became a “mission,” now in its fifth generation.
First winery in Italy to produce Prosecco as a sparkling wine, to perfect its method of sparkling and to create – as early as 1924 – the first label with the term Prosecco.
Since 2009, the word “Prosecco” has identified the Territory located between the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia Regions and no more than the wine obtained from the homonymous grape, today called Glera. The appellation Prosecco can therefore only be given to the white sparkling wine obtained from the native Glera grape variety (min. 85%), produced and bottled exclusively in the North-East of Italy, according to the D.O.C.G. (Controlled and Guaranteed Denomination of Origin) and D.O.C. (Controlled Denomination of Origin) production disciplinaries, which represent two distinct quality levels. The historical production area of Conegliano Valdobbiadene has been awarded with the D.O.C.G. status, the highest qualification for Italian high quality wines. Only the Prosecco that comes from this Territory, that includes 15 Municipalities in the Province of Treviso – between the Dolomites and the Adriatic sea – can be defined as “Superiore”. The Hills of Conegliano Valdobbiadene with their steep slopes, often hard to cultivate due to the variety of soils, have made the rural landscape so unique and spectacular that it has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Within this area, there is a very special hill, enclosed by only 107 hectares, where the Superiore of Cartizze comes from, the highest oenological expression of the Prosecco. The Prosecco Superiore Carpenè Malvolti is produced in this Territory, for centuries devoted to viticulture, where historical Vine-Growers produce grapes of high quality, overseen with care during their vine-growing activities by the expert Agromists and Oenologists of the Winery.
