About This Product :

The Grape:
100% Chardonnay

The Appellation:
Finger Lakes, New York

The Vineyard:
Salmon Run wines are produced from grapes grown by growers across the region, and younger estate vines from the Dr. Konstantin Frank vineyards.
All of the Salmon Run wines are made and bottled with the same team and care of Dr. Konstantin Frank wines.

Salmon Run is named after the majestic landlocked salmon that swim through the deep waters of Keuka Lake in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York. For over 25 years, Salmon Run wines embody the experience of the Finger Lakes producing everyday wines for everyday enjoyment.

The Wine:
The floral and fruity bouquets of this wine, with mineral and toasty elements, are in harmony with this style of Chardonnay. The aromas of white peach, quince and melon on the nose give way to a supple texture with good fruit concentration, vibrant acidity and a clean finish. This Chardonnay exemplifies the food friendly style that we strive for at Dr. Frank’s with good acidity, integrated and not overwhelming oak, moderate alcohol and a wine not dominated by the malolactic character.

The Winery:
In 1993, Fred Frank, current 3rd generation owner of Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery, founded Salmon Run Wines. In creating this new range of wines, Fred offered consumers all over the globe the ability to try wines from the Finger Lakes at an affordable price.

For over 25 years, this commitment remains at the core of our passions. Salmon Run Wines can be found across America, Europe, the Caribbean, Taiwan, Japan, and more.

Riesling was first brought to the Finger Lakes by our founder, Dr Konstantin Frank. Those original vines dating back to 1958 are still in production. Riesling blocks on our Keuka vineyard were planted in 1958, 1962, 1968, 1976, 1999, 2006, and 2012 with various clones (88, 90, 11, 318, 239, 49, 110, 38). Soils here are shallow, shale-based which add minerality, acidity,
and elegance. Riesling was planted in 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2012 on our Seneca estate vineyard with 90 and 356 clones. Temperatures here are a few degrees warmer than Keuka thus providing riper fruit notes. Soils on Seneca are characterized by deep honeoye silt loam. A small portion of the grapes come from Eric Volz Vineyard, just north across the road from Dr. Konstantin Frank’s plantings on Keuka Lake.
