The Wine:
Deep pomegranate red in color, on the nose it shows ripe cherry, black currant and coffee-like notes are followed by full and round taste of dark fruit flavors, tobacco and black pepper.
The Pairing:
This wine pairs well with savory and rich khachapuri, or pizza. =)
The Vinification:
100% Saperavi grapes made in 8000 year old style in large clay jars called qvevri.
Following wild yeast fermentation for two weeks and maceration for four weeks, the wine is racked into a new qvevri, sealed
air tight and aged for six months.
The Winery:
Veluri is the Georgian word for “Wild.” Veluri wines are dedicated to the wild and native grape varieties of Georgia, and the people who have kept alive the Georgian winemaking traditions for over 8000 years. Veluri wines are a collaboration between Terraneo Merchants and a well known, respected and awarded winery in Kakheti, Georgia. Veluri wines are consistent in quality each vintage and show purity of fruit through a more modern style of Georgian winemaking. The philosophy is one of excellence based in a blend of ancient and modern techniques. Respecting our inherited tradition of quality wine making we aim to produce fine wines that are reliable and speak of their origin. Wines are produced under strict quality control and are bottled in our modern bottling facility. The winemaking team is lead by oenologist Gogi Dakishvili. Wines available now: Saperavi Dry Red, Kindzmarauli semi sweet red, Pirosmani semi dry red and Mtsvane kvevri amber wine.
